"A tale of two districts"

Maryland's 8th District sent Chris Van Hollen to Congress less than six years ago. In that short time Van Hollen has taken on a number of leadership positions in both the party and the Congress, and he is becoming a nationally familiar face for the Democratic Party. Right next door is our own 4th District, which has been "represented" by Al Wynn for about 15 years now -- more than TWICE as long as Van Hollen. After all that time he holds NO leadership position higher than chair of an obscure subcommittee. There is no evidence that Wynn has any discernible political philosophy beyond staying in office. Even if you don't care about your Representative's ideological purity, you'd hope that he could at least gain enough influence to bring his own district some tangible benefits, right? Wynn hasn't bothered. So even when he tries to brag about the pork he's brought home, the amounts are invariably paltry -- a few hundred thousand dollars here and there. Small compensation for the many corporate giveaways that he's faithfully enabled over the years. The 4th District is one of the most progressive in the country. It deserves a REAL progressive representative. More than that, it deserves a representative who's energetic and ethical. Vote for Donna Edwards!

I first learned about Donna from the website dailykos. As soon as I read the what the campaign is about, I was hooked. I feel the same way about this campaign as I did with Ned Lamont last year. Al Wynn has been in Congress since 1992, elected on the coattails of Clinton. Two years after he won his first term, control of Congress went to the GOP. It's rumored that Wynn swung towards the control. Wynn supports the corporate GOP Agenda way too often: -- voted for All War All The Time -- Tax Cuts for the Rich -- Making it difficult for regular folks to file for bankruptcy while no changes to corporation who file for bankruptcy to abrogate their union contract -- Voted for the Leave no Child Behind (send em to the front line) Act -- voted for CAFTA and other unfair so-called Free Trade Agmts -- Voted to give taxpayer money to developers who might not get enough money from their speculation -- Voted w/ the GOP to give the federal courts jurisdiction over the Terry Schiavo case And so on. Donna offers a fresh, progressive voice for District 4, one that will represent the district, not just the beltway bandits with headquarters there. As the daughter of a military man, you know she's organized. And that's what we need in the new Congress where Democrats will rule. Donna's on a roll while Wynn's about to fold.
